For The Four Arts Contemporaries Gala with a "Pioneer Chic" brief, the goal was to nod to history without ever tipping into costume. I styled my client @sykesstyle, Erin Sykes of SYKES Properties, in a SAME Los Angeles dress that reimagined the classic pioneer-era hoop skirt through modern structure and movement. Rather than leaning literal, the silhouette let the theme come through in shape and feeling, sleek, feminine, and thoroughly new age, while still speaking clearly to the brief. This is exactly the kind of styling I love most: interpreting a theme rather than imitating it.
